What you pay per unit

Rs. 16.48 / unit
Lowest rate. Subsidised by government.
Protected
51 – 100 units
Rs. 20.85 / unit

Rs. 22.94 / unit
Upper limit of protected status. Keep under 200.
Unprotected
201 – 300 units
Rs. 27.14 / unit
Subsidy removed. Significant jump from protected.
Unprotected
301 – 700 units
Rs. 32.03 / unit
Most AC-heavy homes fall here in summer.
Unprotected
Above 700 units
Rs. 35.24 / unit
Highest rate. Large homes, commercial use.

Rates effective January 2026. Final bill includes GST (17%), FCA, QTA adjustments, and meter rent. Above figures show base unit rates only.

When you use it matters too
If you have a Time of Use (TOU) meter, peak hours cost significantly more. Run heavy appliances off-peak.
🔴 Peak Hours — Summer
7 PM – 11 PM
Higher rates apply during evening peak. Avoid running washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters during this window.
🟢 Off-Peak Hours
11 PM – 7 AM
Up to 50% discount on consumption. Run your heavy appliances overnight — washing machine, dishwasher, water heater.
✦ Unkl Recommendation
The 200-unit rule
Staying under 200 units keeps you in the protected slab. A 220-unit bill costs ~Rs. 5,800. A 190-unit bill costs ~Rs. 4,500. Rs. 1,300 difference monthly.
